Honolulu Pride is launching: Vote with Pride - 2012!

Through this project we will not be making any endorsements but we are going to be working to encourage Hawaii's LGBTQIA community to register and vote in the Primary and General Election!

We do hope that you will vote for candidates that support equality for the LGBTQIA community.

Remember there is a lot at stake with this election and the 2012 Primary Election Voter Registration Deadline is
July 12, 2012.

If you have moved since the last election you do need to re-register.... - Honolulu Pride's Vote with Pride 2012

Names President Obama Honorary Grand Marshal

HONOLULU - Honolulu Pride, Hawaii’s oldest and largest LGBTQIA* advocacy organization, announces Grand Marshals for the 2012 Honolulu Pride Parade and Celebration on Saturday, June 2nd. The Grand Marshals were selected by the Honolulu Pride selection committee because they best exemplify this year’s theme:
Time 2 Get Equal.

Representing the past, present and future of the modern LGBTQIA equal rights movement we are honoring these Grand Marshals at the 22nd Annual Honolulu Pride Parade and Celebration:

Farrington High School’s Gay-Straight Alliance (Youth Grand Marshal)
Mark “Tuki” Alexander – bartender at Tapas Lanai Bar (Individual Grand Marshal)
Sister Joan Chatfield – Maryknoll nun (Ally of a Lifetime Grand Marshal)
Mitch Kahle representing Hawaii Citizens for the Separation of State and Church
(Ally Organization Grand Marshal)
Planned Parenthood of Hawai‘i (Organization Grand Marshal)
Honolulu Weekly (Business Grand Marshal)
Andy South (Celebrity Grand Marshal)
President Barack H. Obama (Honorary Grand Marshal)

“These amazing individuals, organizations and businesses have had a significant impact in Hawaii's LGBTQIA community and our on-going struggle for justice and equality.” said Michael Golojuch. Jr., Chair of Honolulu Pride; “We are grateful for everything that each of the Grand Marshals has done and continues to do, as we all work towards full equality.”

“The highlight of a Pride Parade is its honorees. With these distinguished Grand Marshals the 2012 Honolulu Pride Parade will be the best to date.” said Rob Hatch, Co-chair of the Honolulu Pride Parade.

The Honolulu Pride Parade is on Saturday June 2nd, at 10:00 AM, starting at Magic Island, passing through Waikiki and ending at Kapiolani Park. Each of the Grand Marshals will speak at the Honolulu Pride Celebration, which takes place immediately following the parade, at the Kapiolani Park Bandstand. The speaking schedule will be announced on Thursday May 31st.

Write-ups for each of the Grand Marshals are available upon request or for download on Honolulu Pride’s website (www.honoluluprideparade.org) and their Facebook page (www.facebook.com/HonoluluPride).  Contact information for each of the Grand Marshals are available upon request.
